Coastal Plains

Where Texas soil meets the ocean, it has been transformed into sand from the relentless onslaught of wind and sea. The soil here ranges from clay to coarse sand.

You won’t find fine powdery quartz sand but in some locales the sand softens to form nice wide beaches protected by massive natural sand dunes.

Sugar and rice are planted in the region and in the sub tropical Rio Grand valley is where you will find Texas” citrus industry.  The famous “Ruby Red” pink grapefruit is grown here.
